Three tins, two bunnies and a deck of cards

A few months ago I was sorely tempted by a stack of book-shaped tins (a combination of book AND tin?! Magic!) I spotted online, freshly made and with price tags of £18 upwards, it seemed a small price to pay for bookish loveliness but my frugal tendencies kicked in and I couldn't bring myself to spend nearly £20 for the smallest of them. Days later I had a change of heart and grabbed my debit card only to find they were sold out - it wasn't meant to be, but book-shaped tins then made it to the bingo list of must-seek-out-and-buy items. It's a very long list and if I'm totally honest I don't think everything on it would even fit into my house, I think clutterbugs naturally expand their cluttery fancies to fit their containers but if I expand too much further there'll be trouble of the tripping hazard variety. But back to the tins of wonder - these two were love at first sight, both under the £3 mark and vintage to boot - if I could purr I would. Along came the floral number and suddenly I'd acquired three vintage tins all made by Cadbury's.

Porcelain bunnies! T was very unimpressed when I presented this pair of cuties, apparently they're the sort of things old ladies have in nursing homes (!) so they may end up in my Etsy shop seeking a loving home but for the moment they are my only bit of Eastery decoration about the place. I'm making up for the fact I convinced myself Easter was next weekend by munching toasted hot cross buns and admiring my bunnies.

I've been snapping up sets of vintage playing cards the past couple of weeks for a crafty project I'm working on, won't say too much more about that at the moment (creating a little mystery there) but sooner or later prototypes will turn into propertypes and I'll show you what has been keeping me busy lately! I blame my new (old) desk - all sorts of ideas have come into being since it turned up full of handy drawers and prettiness, it lured me in with it's siren song and I've been sitting at it every day feeling inspired. Will post some gratuitous desk ogling shots soon!

I hope you're all having a great bank holiday weekend, have a tea for me!

  3. Beautiful tins, I am a tin lover - who needs plastic storage boxes for life's 'bits'
I'm rather tickled by the thought of you admiring your bunnies while T looks on, nonplussed. Double entendre?

  4. Hi Jem,
I've just stumbled upon your blog - and what a great place to stumble upon! I LOVE it here!!! What a lot of gorgeous stuff there is to see!!! :-)
Your tins were a fabulous find. I'm a secret tin-lover too. I have loads, but always seem to be able to find stuff to fill new ones with! I love your vintage playing card pack too!!! My husband's a magician by night (teacher by day, like me), and I'm sure he's think the cards were amazing. I'll have to show him.
Whereabouts in Derbyshire are you? I come from Staffordshire (Tamworth), though we live in Germany (Duesseldorf) now. Still, we're back in the Midlands a few times a year, visiting my folks.
Until my next visit (I'll be stopping by regularly now I've found you).....
    Happy Easter!

  7. I don't think there's anything wrong with the Easter bunnies, and i've never assumed they would be in old peoples homes either. I think you should keep him and give him a loving home hehe. Love the cards too - especially the box, the detailing and the colouring is lush!

  22. Ooh lovely things, so much better to have the cheaper real vintage version of the tins, and I've seen them go for more on eBay.

I'm going to be really jealous of your new old desk aren't I? I really hoped I'd have space of my own when we moved, but it's back to the dining table and sofa for me!
