If ten million fireflies

I've found myself playing with cameras more and more over the past couple of years, when you think about it they are the perfect tool for magpies like me as you can capture beauty anywhere you go to bolster what you experience.  Often the simplest things make magical images and I'm having so much fun learning about photography as I go along.  It's funny that so many of the pictures I take are around my own home - both for blogging and for fun - but it's comforting to be in your own environment where you can play around and rearrange to your heart's content.  I like that everyday things can be gorgeous seen through a camera and I have a friends (and a man!) infinitely more talented than I am behind a lens who constantly inspire me to keep snapping.

There is a floor lamp in my living room that came from Ikea about 5 years ago when T and I moved into our first officially-ours apartment, I'd been in a bit of a panic at the vast sea of unpacking to get through so was relieved to make a getaway to my then evening job at a hellish call-centre selling software (never again) and escape the mess.  After a pretty mind numbing, soul munching 4 hours of explaining said software packages to the unsuspecting public whose dinner/conversation/favourite TV programme I'd interrupted I remember traipsing up the four floors to my new front door dreading the chaos within.  There was deathly hush inside and I thought little of it until I realised I hadn't tripped over one box on my way into the living room and that there was a funny glow coming from the corner of the room.  There stood the tree lamp I had ogled in Ikea earlier that day while my mother-in-law, T and I had done the obligatory new-place shop for energy-saving lightbulbs and a dining table.  Boxes and assorted junk were miraculously absent and the living room was now an un-packed, chaos free haven complete with a pretty tree lamp that MIL had sneakily purchased while I'd been otherwise occupied.  It was one of those moments where you feel very lucky to have certain people in your life.

I was watching the lamp a few days ago and the reflection of it's bulbs in the window just looked so ethereal and happy-making that I spent the next 15 minutes snapping away at it with my iPhone while humming 'Fireflies' by Owl City.  Another thing I love about photos? The power they have to summon those memories you make! ♥

  1. Aah your photos are always beautiful Jem, I think you're very talented. You obviously have an innate ability there, so you'll only improve. It's one of the things which makes your blog so lovely to visit.

Sounds like you have a great man and MIL too, nothing better than coming home to a tidy house (or freshly made bed. And dinner too, if I'm being greedy)

    xx

  3. I second what Lakota says. You have a very keen eye for beauty, with an edge which takes it deeper than surface glitter.
You really should be cashing in on your talents, lady!
