Postcrossing

I've rambled on about how much I ♥ vintage postcards before but this time I'm sticking firmly to the present.  Coming home to post on the doormat, or hearing the rustle and snap as the postie pushes it through my door makes me very happy, then comes that little rush of anticipation; what could it be?  More often than not a couple of disappointing plastic-windowed envelopes or a handful of junky flyers look up at me expectantly, in my experience if an envelope has a plastic window the contents are either dull or expensive - not a winner.  Every so often though, a handwritten card or letter from a friend drops through to make my day and then I wish it happened more regularly as they beat a Facebook message, tweet or email hands down.

Enter Postcrossing, an international online community of postcard fanciers like myself!  Become a postcrosser, request an address, and send a postcard to a random soul across the globe and you'll then receive one yourself from someone else.  The perfect solution to boring mail days as you never know where your next postcard will come from or when it will arrive.

  2. Hey Jem - ever turn the radio on and the same song is playing on three different channels? That's what I've found reading blogs tonight, it seems everyone is getting exciting stuff in the mail except me!! Sea Angels and my sister's blog 'Brown paper packages tied up with string' also posted about wonderful things they have just received. I love your postcards and what a brilliant idea postcrossing is. It's just a joy getting cool stuff in the mail. Have a wonderful weekend!

  6. Now that’s real nostalgia; we used to do ‘chain postcards’ in the 60s but I don’t think it worked as well as this modern variation.

  10. I'm a bit of a handwritten letter/postcard kinda girl. Wouldn't it just be lovely if for one day people sat down and wrote a letter to the people they love, rather than a lifeless text/tweet/email.
    Long live good mail xxx

  14. Hello there! I also love vintage postcards. There's a vintage shop in Notts that sells them, i find it quite intriguing reading what people wrote about back then!

  18. What a novel idea! Harks back a little to the old days of pen pals before the Internet revolution.
